fuel pump hook up????
i just a bought a 83 rx7 and i've been working on it for a couple of days now. I've noticed that the fuel pump has to be connected to the battery in order to work, so if its connected to the battery it stays on. that will kill my battery and i dont want to keep pulling the wire off everytime i stop somewhere. Isn't that just a little wrong. I need some advise on how to connect this fuel pump properly.
Can you explain the wiring a little more? Are there wires coming from the fuel pump clear up to the battery? What wires are you hooking up to make it work? On your car, the pump should work whenever the key is in the ON position.

its just two wires connected directly to the battery from the fuel pump and in order to turn it off and on you have to connect it to the postive side of the battery and pull off in order to turn off. so theres no turning it on when the ignition is switched on.
The actual wiring to the pump should come off the wiring harness and run through the floor behind the drivers seat. If you have pouches behind the seat, you will need to remove the pouch behind the drivers seat to get at the wiring harness. There should be a set of two wires that come off the wiring harness and go through the floor near the center of the floor. If the wires are not running through there then somebody has by passed the harness for some reason. One of the wires are black and about 1/8 inch thick and the other, if I recall right, is green or green and black. These relay the power to the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on.
Take a look and see if they are there.
Hope this helps some.
