Fuel pump for GSL-SE
#2
Tennis, anyone
I just went through the ' -SE fuel pump ' deal. What a pain in the *** ! I ended up going to the junkyard and for $ 23.00 dollors i removed a 2ed gen drop-in (the tank) fuel pump. the 2ed gens have a 13b. I had to modify the pick-up in my tank for it to work, but it turned out real good. i also kept the fuel level sender in my tank
already, so the elactrical connection had to be changed too. I cut off the connection on the FC pump and used the 'old' pump connector and crimped it on the 'new' FC pump. That way the use of the OEM wiring is still intact.
You will have to add some extra wire to reach from the storage bin to the rear of the car now. The FC pump also has the filter built-in to the pump. To do this, you will need to drain the tank, then drop the tank to get into it CAREFULL gas vapors go BOOM !!! keep a water hose running over the tank while you remove the pick-up 'plate' to be safe,,,i did. Your also going to have to add some lenghts of fuel hose from where the old pump was, from the check valve forward to the main hardline and the return line as well. I used zip ties to hold the lines to the frame.

I plan on putting one of these into my SE when I do the TII upgrade. I see no reason why it won't work for the standard FI 13b.
Walbro Fuel Pump
I think you can even order it with the banjo fitting, let me know how it goes.

That fuel pump looks exactly like one Holley sells. I found a used pump and going to try and just do a straight replacement right now. Plan on staying stock.

on the FC pump, straight out of FC. theres the plate, 2 hose fittings, 4 wires , on the -SE plate there are 3 hose fittings. main , return , vent. i left the return line (pipe)
the same lenght, cut the main pipe down, i left about 2-3 inches of tube, enough for rubber hose and a clamp to grab. the lenght of rubber hose added along with the pump should equal the lenght of the -SE pipe. On the FC
plate i removed and used the grommets and nut/bolt for the power and grounded the pump to the -SE inside plate. The -SE wiring uses 2 wires one hot , one ground.
so only two holes drilled through plate . the hot ( i used red wire and black wire ) easyier to remember. red goes to the + on the pump and black from the pump grounds to the plate. the wiring using the -SE 2 prong connector for ease under the storage bin. sorry no pics, no camera. It's pretty straight forward, look at an FC pump assembly and only use 2 wires. I didn't want to screw around with the fuel level sender and left the stock -SE
sender for an accurate gas guage. It took some engineering and some thought, but it works and i didn't blow myself up,,,,yet. Lol
If this post makes no sense, sorry, just ask to make clear.

Prosthetic head.
So are you guys saying that you need a certain kind of pump for an SE? Actually, let me rephrase the question: What is the reason for needing an SE-specific pump? Is it because of the mounting, or is it because of different hoses on the SE as compared to other 1st gens?
I hope my question made sense.

OK, the -SE's use EFI = hi- presure most EFI systems are hi-presure. As long as the pump can pump so many gallons per hour. any pump will work from any company
as long as it is rated at a min. of 60 GPH. one could install a larger volume pump, but then will need to have a regulator a person can adjust manually, not pre-set.

I removed the regulator fitting from my stock gsl-se pump because it was leaking on that fuel regulator fitting. I am looking for AN fittings that will fit has anyone tried this. Seems to be pretty straigthfoward if u get the right barbed adapter.

I dunno. How about whatever I paid for it plus shipping?
I'll have to check. I installed it in my car, put about 10 miles on it before I decided to park the car for good, due to rust.

Ok that fuel-pump.net site is cool . I think theysell the fittings I need for the stock gsl-se pump so I can replace the fitting. If that doesnt work Im getting the in line pump (walberg 255?) and gonna put an fittings on that. Im sick of Rx7 Stock gsl-se pumps this is my 3rd one and I refuse to pay again for that damn regulator (almost more than a stock pump replacement would cause). I plan to modify my fuel rail also to get rid of the pulsation damper and regulator and add an adjustable aftermarket one and fuel guage. After that we will see LOL Anyone done this yet?
Happy wrenching..
