fuel pressure questions
Alright guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with my 12a, and I'm wondering if you could help.... so here goes.
I have completed the rats nest removal, rebuilt the carb, capped all vacuum lines except the second plug on the carb spacer to run to the vacuum advance for the dizzy. I have an aftermarket fuel pump currently, some generic 5-7 psi junk from local parts store, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The problem I'm having is that when my adjustable FPR is set to about 3 psi, the car idles perfectly, but when I put it on the interstate, the motor cant get enough gas to keep up. So I bumped the FPR up to 4-4&1/2 and the car is a dream when i've got it floored, but it's feeding the engine to much gas, so it suffers at stop-lights and idle, and wants to flood/die.
I remember reading that the check valve on the return line is very important to the way the nikki holds pressure, but due to the fact that I cant really deliver a precise amount of fuel, should i gut this component or replace it with a slightly more open FPR at say 3&1/2 psi instead of 2&1/2?
Thanks in advance for any help and input~

What kind of FPR are you using?
If it looks like this, throw it away. Its the cause of your problems.
Get a better one for low pressure, like the Holley 1-4 psi or an even better brand.
