fuel only or fuel+spark

ok i have a project approaching and i have some questions.

the project is a '86 13b into my '84 GSL-SE. i will be removing dead weight such as power steering, air conditioning, and as much of the emissions system as i can.

i'm trying to decide which route i go as far as fuel injection. and i've come up with two options: use the FB style distributor ignition and a fuel-only computer, or run the CAS and FC direct fire action. would the 2nd gen ignition system provide enough of an advantage over the 1st gen style to be worth the hassle, or should i cough up the extra greenbacks for a fuel+spark?

additionally, can anyone recommend a good place to start looking for EMSes?

i'm also curious to know how much i should expect to get in exchange for my SE injectors...

Sounds like a pretty good/simple setup to me. Power will probably be the same with a dizzy, maybe a little worse mileage, no biggie.

I would. Use DLIDFIS with MegaSquirt. You'll save money.

You should keep the SE injectors. 680cc is nice and juicy, especially if you were into custom fuel rails so you could run four of them. Or you could run 550cc (high impedance) primary and secondary which is a lot easier since there would be no resistor or flyback issues.

I've got a custom code for my MegaSquirt that several people have worked on. It'll run a 13B or 20B just fine fuel-only (that is to say my 20B will be the first to use it). If you want spark, it can do it too, but then you lose the cool dual leading sparks and you also need to install a 36-1 wheel. It has also proved to be a little funny at high RPM. Some bugs still need to be worked out. I will run mine fuel-only and will eventually get into proper ignition control with a different code; this one isn't being developed any further, I don't think.

Anyway, you're local, so you'd be able to see my setup without too much difficulty.

i don't really feel comfortable trying to assemble a microtech, unfortunately. and i'll be using the stock injectors from the fc motor, for simplicity's sake. i have a complete engine lined up for the project.
