Fuel Needle

Ok....so my fuel needle kinda got bent a bit (dont ask) I straightened it up enough that it is ok and still works, yet I know it isn't flush anymore to the backdrop.....

my question is, how is the needle connected? obviously it is behind the little arched black half circle....does it just slot into a hole or something? if so, I'll just get a new white needle from a wreck and install.... anyone?

Why take the pointer out of a salvaged gauge, instead of just replacing the whole gauge as a unit?

Coz my dash as a whole unit is fine. Don't want to uninstall my dash, reinstall a new one. Just want to replace that one needle

You would have to take the gauge cluster out anyway. You CAN replace the needle, but it's very delicate work, and requires disassembly of the gauge. Much easier and quicker to just replace the gauge as a unit, m8.

I'm assuming your gauge cluster is not stock?
The stock gauge cluster just connects with a speedo cable, a couple of plastic connectors, and a spade lug IIRC.

Nah...was trying to the other day but got stuck. Think I've figured out how to go about it now though. So many nasty wires back there however!

Once you reach behind and unhook the speedo cable, as well as the screws that fasten the cluster to the dash, the cluster should pull straight out enough for you to see the connectors behind the cluster. It's really pretty easy, I can take one out in 5 minutes tops.
Gotta go watch basketball, good luck with it.

Make sure you use a gauge cluster with less mileage!!!

It instantly adds dollars to you resale value!!

Taking the cluster out is no big deal.. Just don't forget the two screws on either side of the steering column that you have to get to from underneath (standing on your head usually).. I forgot these a couple of times..

not like the stock fuel gauge is worth 2 ***** anyways, my fuel sender is a bastard
cant trust it to be accurate within 4 gallons, its a basic might be full, sorta half empty, or looks empty but 6 gallons left situation.
thats when it even works, although its been really good lately, wasnt fun though when driving my car home for the first time, freaking 16 hours of driving with no fuel gauge 80% of the time.
