Hey guys,

I'm Installing a new fuel pump and lines, and i noticed that all my vapour vent lines are all rusted through. My question is do i really need the vent lines and related system, and how can i disconnect it in a propper safe way. I assume that since my vent lines were rusted through, the charcoil canister wasn't doing anything anyways. also with my weber 48 IDA there are no vaccume lines on the manifold or carb that would allow me to hook up a vaccume to allow the charcoil canister to work anyways. how can i get rid of the check valves and venting system in a safe way? I want my fuel system to be as simple as possiable. Could i cap the vent lines? or would this cause a negative pressure in the tank that might effect fuel supply? ANy insight would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Matt

After reading up a bit, is it possiable to get rid of the charcoal canister and all vent lines running to the engine bay, and just leave the check and cut valve, so when ever pressure builds up in the tank it vents to atmosphere?

That's how I have my Mikuni set up. I notice a gas smell occasionally, but nothing to worry about. Just don't cap off the line that went to the canister, it vents the tank.

So you got rid of the canister then, and just have it vent to atmosphere, do you get the air rushing sound when you open the gas cap?

if you close off all lines then you will vaccum lock the tank and it will act out of gas. TRUST ME I DID IT, i did not realize that with my dead head setup that it needed to be vented that way, i closed all my lines off and drove good for about 45 mins and then dead, happened twice so i plugged the return line but not the other line and also drilled a pin hole in my fuel cap , did not have any problems this weekend.
