the stock 1st gen carburators are made by NIKKI... why not upgrade your carb to a weber side draft... or a holly 720 cfm carb(j/k 720 is too big)... but NIKKI is your stock carb...

Wow That is how much the WEBER 45mm side-draft intake system is!!! Ouch. There has to be something else I can do. I just got the car 2 months ago, and it ran fine before. Any other suggestions would be helpful!!
Another thing that happens is that it sputters at around 4000 rpms. That is why I think it might be the fuel. Don't know???

Well I took it over to cjf's house after work. He said it needs a good tune up. The engine was replaced at 114,000 miles back in 1994. It is now at 129,000. The car has been sitting a while. I think it needs a good overhaul. Tonight I replaced the distributer and the rod. Idles better, but still have the same prob at higher rpm's. Tommorow I am going to change the spark plugs and maybe the wires too. Also going to change out the filter and the filter system with the following:
Bönez Air Intake kit
The Bönez Air Intake kit for the 12A replaces the stock air filter lid and air filter for improved flow. We retain the lower portion of the stock air filter housing so that you can continue to use all original hose fittings. This kit is completely bolt on and can be installed with simple hand tools in just a few minutes.
Next will be the oil change and some other routine maintanence. Hopefully that will do the trick.
I got the car like 2 1/2 months ago. It ran very well when I first got it. I have since ragged it out, racing everywhere I go. Maybe I need to take it easy a little.
It is a good thing I have an expert like cjf in my home town. He has two sick GSL-SE VERY Jealous!!!!!!!!
Too answer some questions. It is a 5sp. It skips and sputters when you hit 4000 rpm and then sometimes goes up to 6000 rpm with no power at all.
It idles very well.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.

Hey Chris
I did the following after I left your house.
Changed the Distributer Cap and Rotor.
I actually did it myself. Surprise!!! Not to hard.
Friday I took it to a Mechanic. Did the following...
Oil Change
Oil Filter Change
Transmission Fluid Change and Flush
Radiator Flush and Coolant Change
Rear Differential Fluid Change
And they topped off everything else
I am still having huge power loss after 4,000 RPMS
It isn't to bad, but the car struggles up hills sometimes.
Next week I am going to change the intake and filter. also going to change out the spark plugs and wires. Probably will need your help with the spark plugs.
Talk to you later

Finally found the problem. The carborator needed to be rebuilt and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced.
I first thought it was a fuel problem, but the catalytic converter was clogged.
If you ever experience some major power loss when you go over 4,000 RPMs, make sure and check the catalytic converter.
Thanks to everyone that helped me with the problem.
Rotorsportsracing.com did all the work. They are the best in the Southeast. My car now hauls ***. Even with the air on and my girlfriend in the car.
They also replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs. They replaced the converter with a Bonez converter from RX7.com
