FB II- its a popular misconception that the 12AT had about 160hp. The figures for the 12AT vary slightly according to the turbo used, the highest I found quoted was 165 hp @6500rpm. But these figure when quoted are from Japanese specifications which use JIS measurements. To compare it with 12A or 13BT figures used in the USA they have to be in SAE format. This gives about 136-7hp.

Similarily the 12A RX-7 exported to Europe was initially quoted as producing 130hp which was later changed to 105hp SAE. The USA got a smaller ported 12A, less powerful than to other export markets where the highest output was 112hp with about 10 degrees more porting.

Remember the 12AT was designed for the Cosmo [RX5] which in the USA had the 13B rated at 110hp SAE, with the Japanese rating of 135hp for the 13B and 125 for the 12A. Thus the 12AT give a reasonable power increase and good publicity. with 136SAE and 165JIS.

For 1982 it was a good output, four years later the 13BT with more capacity, much bigger turbo, better ecu and porting was designed to produce 170hp. It got an extra10hp at the last minute from the preproduction series to compete in the marketplace with Japanese only rivals such as Nissan.
