Yeah sorry about that I must have made a mistake with my kilowatts to horsepower conversion. Power output will probably be more around the 220 - 250 hp mark, but we will see once I have it on the dyno. Good news though, the megasquirt is assembled and I'm almost done hooking up the wiring harness. Going to go fish around a scrap yard for a lambda (o2) sensor asap, should i get two sensors and mount one in each branch or just mount one after the collector? Oh and Dj55bb, are you running speed-density or alpha-N? Because my plan is to run alpha-N because I don't think ill get a very good vacuum reading with the ITB's and the bridgeport (correct me if i'm wrong). Also does anyone know what kind of fuel pressure I should use? I'm running the 4x550cc S4 turbo injectors. From the look of things the first startup should be very soon, I'm really excited.

Oh and my engine builder pulled open my old engine the other day (i sold it to him). He said it had two broken apex seals, I don't think thats correct because the engine was still running strong when I last drove it so I think the seals were just so worn that they must have broken while he was tearing down the engine :O . Needless to say, its shows that this new engine was a must.

I should finish up the wiring tonight except for the lambda sensor which ill get on Wednesday. Which means I should have this thing fired up by the end of the week, ill definitely post videos. Unfortunately I won't be able to drive the thing yet as I must still get brake pads. I have to save a little for those and then its time to hit the road!

I've discovered broken apex seals before on engines that seemed to be running fine. It's impossible to break them during tear down. Depending on how they're broken they can still achieve quite a good seal. They were sort of broken diagonally near the middle of the seal so the combustion pressure behind the seal was forcing the two pieces together.

Currently, my setup is set with Speed density, I actually can get a good vacumm. I have my vacumm lines hooked up from both ITB's. Fuel Pressure is set around 40PSI IIRC, I'll probably bump it up to around 50 for better fuel attomization. Here's a shot of my vacuum hook up:

I'll try to get a datalog of the file to show you how it reads the MAP sensor.

Ok thanks, I think ill give speed density a try first then. My main concern is at low revs and idle where I think the bridgeport will give some strange pressure readings, perhaps Ill go a hybrid of Speed-Density and Alpha-N. I forgot to order my ITB's with vacuum fittings though so ill just pratley some small pipes into the manifold. Congrats on getting your setup working, looks good.

Ok as you may have seen in my other post I have got the car running . Had a few problems since then with fouled plugs and a bad ignitor and timing etc. but I seem to have got her running reasonably nicely on both rotors with a pretty good idle. I tried to take some videos today but I sprung a water leak at my water temperature sensor. So i must seal that up and get a proper vid. My brake pads are on their way, i ordered them last week so I will be driving soon. The break-in period is going to kill me because id like to get it on the dyno as soon as possible. My engine builder says 600 miles. Thats going to take a while and be rather expensive . But i guess it will get me used to tuning my car and will mean i have a pretty good VE table to work from once I start tuning for high loads/revs. I installed a hood scoop/vent this morning. Thought I could use some cool air under the hood. The scoop is right above my throttle bodies, the air filters actually stick slightly into it. Felt strange cutting through my hood but I think it turned out quite well. The colour doesnt match perfectly but I plan to change my car's colour at some point so i can paint it properly then. Heres some pics of it: The car needs a clean I know.

Im very happy right now. After my oil hose blew and I thought i'd damaged my engine I finally got some new oil hoses made up with some heavy duty hydraulic crimps. Drained the rest of the oil and thew some Helix Ultra in there and fired her up. Oil pressure is still the same as before the accident and I hear no strange noises or anything. Still runs perfectly fine . Took some vids but youtube isnt liking me very much will try get some up soon. I still need to get timing set properly before I can start tuning the fueling. Took car for short drive around block and its quite a handful at low revs and speeds.

update

Oh i see, sorry we call them side indicators here. -xl8rplanet- is right this car is euro-spec.

Took the car for a drive/tuning session yesterday. Found the car was running far too lean, richened my map up a lot and now its running much better. Was awesome driving the car again, even if it can be a handful at low revs and in traffic. If I put my foot down a little I could feel how the engine just wanted to go. I had to restrain myself as I have a long way to go before the engine is broken in. Water temps stay low, oil pressure is nice and high. Went through the logs yesterday and nothing looks strange so it seems im on my way. Now I just need to get a 1000km's through the car and then im going to the dyno to tune for power and at high revs. I want to make use of their wideband 02 sensor to make sure I dont do any damage when im revving high (9500rpm...). Wideband sensors are seriously overpriced here which is why im not using one, at normal driving tuning with the narrowband and by feel is working fine. Timing is also much better now and i've got the idle lower and more stable (brap brap brap stable i mean ). Hopefully I can get the engine broken in asap so I can post dyno figures. If i can afford the gas . Must also get some better videos up, perhaps some videos of driving. And ill make sure to record the dyno runs.

too much . Well car stuff here works out a bit more expensive than in the states i think. Ive spent close to R50,000 which with the current exchange rate is around 6700$ .

Success At Last

Ok recently ive been struggling to get the car to start. Plugs kept fouling and when it did run it ran like crap. I thought this was from my old plugs and broken trailing ignitor. So i went off today and bought new plugs and a new ignitor. I used an ignitor from an old nissan skyline and rewired it to work on my distributor. Once I had this all done I still had the same problems. Then while flood clearing i noticed an unholy amount of fuel coming out the rear rotor's plugs holes but not the front. I decided to look down the throttle bodies while cranking and saw fuel just pouring into the intake manifold. Turns out the fuel pressure regulators diaphragm had torn and fuel was shooting up the vacuum line straight into the intake manifold!!!! Needless to say this was the cause of all my recent problems. I got a new regulator from a friend, of better quality ofcourse and she fired right up! Runs beautifully now had an awesome drive today. Now that ive fixed my trailing and all the other problems I can finally get down to tuning. Im one very happy camper right now

Thanks. Yes I must definitely get some better vids. I'm going to do some more tuning tomorrow most probably as I need to adjust something on my VE table. And I need to start putting some miles on this engine so I can start to open her up. I have 240km on her at the moment, 760 to go before I let her loose . I will hopefully get my brother to take some vids as hes got a decent camera.

You have a lot of driving to do! Hey if you visit me in Jburg and then drive back, your engine will be ready for 9000rpm or more :P I have done under 2000km original km's on my new engine in 1 year... I need to drive more!!

What are you going to set the rev limiter at ?

Will set it to 9500rpm. Must still read up on the fuel cut rev limiter and the hard and soft cut stuff.

Quick update

Ok I now have 580 km on the engine. 420 more to go before im ready to open her up and get on the dyno. Good news is I managed to sell some old radio control cars I had so I've decided to order a lc-1 wideband 02 sensor from diyautotune just to make things easier and safer once I start with WOT tuning. I have managed to get the tune pretty good so far for slow driving and cruising on Alpha-N with only a narrowband. Only thing is that on increased load (up hills etc.) it leans out a little bit. This is partially why I want the wideband, so that I can set my AFR targets and let my ego correction keep the AFR's safe under different loads. I get around 30mpg on the open road. I'm getting excited, almost there .
