Fuel guage reading

1985 FB 12A - On empty my fuel guage reads quarter full .This is not the original tank ,and I don't want to remove sender unit to bend float bar.
Is there a way of say- putting some circuitry - eg a resistor on sender wire or on contacts outside of fuel tank ,or can I get to the fuel guage to recalibrate it.
Any suggestions welcome and no funnies that if it were really so it means never filling up again

Not unless you are a wiring whiz. In which if you were you would not have needed to ask the question. I hate to give you the hard answer, but you might want to go back oem or deal with the gauge reading

Don't understand "go back OEM" hoiwever thanks for input .

i don't think just adding a resistor will cure your problem... it might make it read E at empty... but i think then it wouldn't read F on full.

Thanks for reply -quite true it will affect both impedances,F & E but it's the E that I'm more concerned about .Have you any suggestions on resistor ohms value if I were to fit one . Ta
