fuel gauge not working after tank drop

'85 Fb, 12a....
in my quest to knock out a fuel problem, I dropped the tank. It was very clean inside, no troubles there. I removed the pickup...but not the sending unit....

when putting it back in, I repaired one of the three wires that go to the sending unit...hoping it would make the low fuel light work again....(Ive read that wire goes bad alot...the end was disintegrated. So I cut that wire out of the three position harness that plugs into the tank..and crimped a new connector on it.

Whats left of the harness is still there with the two wires in it, and then I cut enough of the harness away to leave room for my third wire with the connector on it.

Now, the gauge wont work at all. Is there a fuse associated with the fuel gauge? I dont think I got the wires wrong because the connector is shaped a certain way, and two of the three wires are still in there......

really dont want to drop the tank again,,,BOTH bolts for the straps went in weird,, they are tight enough but Im sure they cross threaded....could barely get them to go back on.

First guess would be that the wire you cut is the gauge signal wire, not the low-fuel dipping probe wire. They're both yellow, but one has a blue stripe & the other doesn't.

On C-14 at the tank, YL is the low-fuel sensor. Y is the gauge signal.
