I'm making 15.5 litres per 100 kilometers (i'm canadian). Mostly city driving.
Is this horrible fuel economy? Its on my 84 N/A GSLSE 13b.

or 15.1 Miles per gallon for everyone else.

any thing I can do to improve this fuel economy? gas prices are high in BC it's $4.52 per US gallon.

 

Any Mods? Full tune up and check the exhaust system. If all of you driving is shorter trips in town, that's about right.

 

Strip emissions if possible. Use a lighter foot, do a full tune up.

 

That's not horrible. Most 4 cylinder cars made within the last 5-10 years see about 9 or 10/100KM. Considering your driving a sports car thats more than 2 decades old,(and hopefully driving it the way it should be driven), that likes it's gas, it's not too, too bad. Keep in mind they baby cars during fuel economy testing. You should be smacked if you baby yours. It has that engine for a reason. Do the tune up anyway, you may see an improvement, but don't count on it. Fuel costs don't bother me, even at the 104.6/L rate for today. I have fun driving my car so it's worth it.

Most of my trips are short trips in town, but I drive late at night when no ones on the road....that's the most fun time to drive. Manual in stop and go traffic is irratating.

Man this car is costing alot of money.

 

I was getting about 15mpg for all-city driving until recently. This was mostly stock, except for a Racing Beat exhaust (long primary). Then, I removed my A/C and upgraded to RX-8 sparkplugs and am now getting 17mpg around town. The RX-8 plugs are a fine-wire design, like real race plugs. Unfortunately, they are priced like race plugs, going for about $35 each. On the freeway, I typically get ~24mpg. Haven't made any long trips since the change, so I can't tell you if there was any improvement there.

 

I didn't know spark plugs would make a difference.

 

What 4 cylinder vehicles are you refeering to?
They average production 4 cylinder engine produced within the last 5 or 10 years get an average of 20MPG city and 28 MPG highway.

 

The Se does not like in town driving at all.

Some things that need to be kept in good condition at all times.
1) Plugs
2). Air filter
3). cap,rotor, ignition wires.
4). Make sure your vehicle has an alignment check once a year.
5). Keep the tire pressures up. I recommend 5 PSI over factory for front and rear.
6). Replace the O'2 sensor every 60k maximum
7). Replace the coolant temp sensor every 80k
8). If the injectors have not been cleaned and tested since you have had the vehicle then send them out.
Monitor the performance of the engine. If it seems to be struggling at times and you still have the catalytic converters on then have them checked to make sure they are not starting to clog.
Make sure that the 6 port actuators are working properly.
In reference to plugs if you are going to try the RX-8 plugs which I believe in my opinion are too much money. Upgrading to the 2nd gen coil and using the 2nd gen leading plugs will probably help out and the plugs are alot less money.
As soon as I get done with reinstalling my 6 port pineapple racing sleeves I will see what kind of mileage I go up to with the other mods that I have done on my SE.
