Fuel Cutoff Solenoid?

I have a 79 RX-7. I have been working on it for about 2-3 months trying to get it to start. (When I bought it, it didn't run.) I have tore the carb apart 4 times, cleaning, checking, and double checking that everything is perfect on it. I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump is fine. I know that gas is getting to the carb because when I pull off the gas line at the carb and turn the key on, gas pours out. The plugs have good spark.

The problem is, when I try to start my car, it doesn't fire at all. The starter turns the car over, but it seems like no gas is getting into the engine. I am wondering if there is a solenoid anywhere in the carb that cuts fuel when the car is off and a wire is shorting out causing the problem. Gas is getting to the carb, but not getting through it. Thanks for your help.

spray some starting fluid into the carb & turn the key, now you will have fuel in the combustion chamber, if it starts for a few secs & then dies, your problem is in the fuel system, if it never hits, then check the ignition system

Check in faq section to the link for the factory service manual that is online

The engine does work with starter fluid. But after the starter fluid is gone, it dies. That is why I am wondering if there is a solenoid that isn't working that has gas cutoff from going through the carb.

if you look down the throat of the carb, pull on hte accellerator cable several times you should see a squirt of gas each time you pull the accellerator, does this happen ? if not still problems in carby.

Buy a new carb.

There is no squirt of gas when I hit the accelerator. NO gas is getting through the carb.

I would like to try to get this carb to work. I don't want to spend the money for a new carb if I am not even sure if this one will run.

Can you see gas in the bowl through the front glass? Should be at least half way? If not then fuel not getting into carb(check inlet parts/filter again, blow out with compressed air) or float level not properly adjusted & cutting off fuel. If you see it in the bowl, then problem is most likely with accelerator pump section of the carb.

Yes, I can see fuel through the glass on the side of the carbs. Fuel is getting into the carb floats, but not getting to the venturis. I will check the accelerator pump out when I work on it tonight.

Anyone else have any ideas?
