Front Struts
I am in the process of replacing my front struts with Tokico Blues. The service manual says to note the position of the triangle on top of the strut. However there is nothing there. I assume they mean some sort of reference point but I can't find it or anything similiar. Is this important?
Also, the service manual says to fill the strut housing with oil but is this necessary with an enclosed cartridge like the Tokico Blues?

The triangle is on the black top which has the 4 bolts on it. Stock, it should point to the front outside strut bolt. If you point it to the front inside, you get a better angle on the wheel. See my write up here....

And yes, you should fill it with a little bit of fluid, oil or antifreeze. It helps with heat dispersion and they last longer.

If you cannot see the little triangle mark on the strut mounts, just mark one bolt hole and stud with a paint marker. The strut mounts are offset, if you look at them you can easily notice this.
As for the oil in the strut housings, yes it is needed. It helps to cushion the inserts, along with preventing them from building up heat under use.

Would it be a good idea to add something in there every time you are working in the suspension? Even if I am putting the same struts back in should I add some oil as preventitive maintnance?

If you are not taking the strut housings apart, there should be not need to replace the fluid, as long as as you know it was added when the struts were put in.
This oil doesn't wear out, or go bad. Even without the fluid, the strut cartridges will survive for quite a while, but it's still best to use it.

my marker was hard to see but i found itnot on the metal but the rubber. there is the metal outside were blots are and a metal insert where the struts bolt. rubber inbetween. good luck. let me know how the blues are. mine is lowered and needs a good strut.
