front springs

I swapped the strut/spindle assemblies from my '83 parts car to my SA. After driving it for a few minutes, I noticed some noise from the front end when I go over rough/bumpy spots. I'm not sure exactly what's making noise yet, but I did find that the springs move around on the perches. I don't think they did that on the '83. I know the SA has taller strut tubes, not sure about spring length. Is the SA suspension travel longer and allows the FB springs to move when the spring is unloaded?

The springs should not be loose on the strut assembly, even when there is no load on them. If you installed aftermarket FB lowering springs, that may be your problem. Good chance that they are too short for the SA strut housings. If that is the reason, and you want to keep the SA struts, you may need to cut the spring perches off and weld them back on a little higher up.

If that's the case, I can probably do that for you.

SA strut inserts are longer than a FB.

trochoid, they aren't really loose, but they rotate by hand if the car is lifted and the wheels are off the floor. I replaced the SA spindle, strut tube, spring, strut top, etc with what was on my FB. AFAIK, they are stock FB springs.

To be that loose, they are either after market springs, or they have been cut.
