Front End Information
I just got done working on the front end suspension of my 1984 Mazda RX-7 GS
Here is some information I hope will be valuable to others doing the same (and to me when I forget what I'd used)...
Tools Used:
Pitman Arm Puller
Pickle Fork
Bearing Race and Seal Driver
1/2" Breaker Bar
1/2" socket wrench
3/8" socket wrench
10mm socket
12mm socket
14mm socket
16mm socket
17mm socket
26mm socket
30mm socket
14mm wrench
Needle nose pliers for removing the cotter pins
Putty Knife (for putting grease in rotors for bearings)
Penetrating Spray
Hi-Temp Bearing Grease
Nut / Bolt measurements:
Tie Rod Castle Nuts 16mm
Pitman Arm Castle Nut 16mm
Idler Arm Castle Nut 14mm
Pitman Arm Nut 30mm
Idler Arm Nuts (to Chassis) 14mm
Sway bar end link bolts 14mm (stock end links have two nuts on the end, one a reverse thread, hold that with a wrench while using a socket wrench on the other)
Tension Rod / Sway bar mounting brackets 17mm
Caliper mounting bolts 14mm
Backing place mounting bolts 14mm
Strut to Control Arm bolts 17mm
Control Arm bolts 14mm
Tension Rod Lock Nut 26mm
Tension Rod Nuts (Control Arm) 14mm
Sway Bar End Link Nuts 14mm
Oil Pan Nut 19mm
Radiator Shroud 10mm
Radiator 10mm
Hood 10mm
Tips:
The lower 14mm bolt holding on the caliper can be more easily reached by loosening the front 17mm bolt holding the strut on and undoing the one closer to the caliper. Just slide the strut back and you have easy access to the caliper.
I've probably missed a lot so I look forward to the additions.
Hope this helps
