Front bumper help

I've searched every 1st gen thread with the word bumper in it. Nothing helps me here.

84 GSL-SE

My problem is that the bumper won't line up properly. I don't know what it is, but it just doesn't work. The stock bumper and the '83 bumper I just bought have the same problem. The shock absorbers are already on the car. I bolt the aluminum structure to the shocks, and the bumper cover won't go on far enough. I remove the aluminum reinforcement, I slide the bumper on, it won't line up with the fenders. It seems as if there are little tabs on each side of the bumper that's supposed to line up and attach to the fenders, but they don't. I'll snag some pics later, but this is ridiculous.

Sounds like the bumper shocks are damaged. They are held on with two nuts each. One holds it on and one is a lock nut.

I recently fanaggled a bumper on after a front end hit... Ream some holes here, put some washers there, folded cardboard tucked under the skin to smooth out wrinkles... Now, if I could only mess with carbs as good as I could straighten out a front end. "insert smiley rolling eyes here"

I figured it out. I did a lot of research and found out that the fenders were SA fenders. Wait. What's all that bondo on the driver's fender? After peeling the bondo off, it turns out that the driver's fender is an FB fender, and the passenger fender is an actual SA fender. So, I need 2 good FB fenders to make this work, since the driver's side is all wrinkled underneath about a half inch of bondo and fiberglass.

I'm not sure about the bumper shocks. I removed the 2 bolts I could see. That made them loose, but I really couldn't get the shocks off.

Anyways, I can see that the metal support is pushed too far to the passengers side. That, I believe, I can straighten out.
