Front brakes pads, need advice for walk through
Hello, I am changing my pads to OEM replacements and I didn't find the Hayne's manual very helpful. I knew there was an easier way of doing it just by experiance swapping springs and struts. And I was going to take lots of pics and do a whole walkthrough for Rxclub.
But, being my first pad swap ever, I am unsure that I am doing everyhing perfectly correctly and don't want to pass on incorrect information.
So far, I have
-jacked up front end of car
-taken off wheel
-taken off 17mm bolt at bottom of calliper and swung it up
-removed old pads
-depressed piston with 'C' clamp
Now here is where it gets fuzzy. The pads I removed had about half the life of the pads I am putting on, and had shims in between the pads and where they're mounted. The manual I have doesn't say if the shims are supposed to be in there or if they where put in later to keep the pedal feel the same once the brakes are worn. I didn't think much of this and thought I would just bolt it back together and see how it would work. But now that it is back together the something in the brakes is constantly rubbing against the rotor. Warning sign #1 for me is a noise where there wasn't one before, so I stopped and started inspecting my work. Every thing is in right, and the anti-rattle spring is good.
Are the shims causing a problem? Do the pads have a area that wears rapidly so it sits perfect and the rubbing will go away after a little driving? Is it something I missed completely?
Any help is appreciated, and look for a how to on brake pad replacement in the future, later, thanks in advance.
