Found a GSL-SE rear end (Pics)

So I found a guy near my house who has a 2 Mariah wide bodies and a **** load of spare parts. I ask him if he has a GSL-Se rear and he says yeah give me $100 and it's yours

He says it belonged to his brothers old GSL-SE that had low miles, but was totaled in an accident. As you can see, it's been sitting outside for many years I suppose, but I still think it's a good Deal. My frond brakes are already off an SE, I just needed the rear.

So what product do you guys recommend for removing the rust? Also, should I try and rebuild the calipers or just buy new ones? Can I save those rotors by cleaning and cutting?

Thanks, Luis

You could also media blast it. Since it's been sitting outside. I'd rip everything off it and media blast everything. The caliper can be rebuilt. It's a pain and takes some patients.

I blasted my rotors, caliper, brackets, backing and plate then power coated them.

Im here at my Mechanics house. He says those calipers might be so rusted inside, that they might be beyond rebuilding. We sprayed everything down with wd40 and will try and remove the calipers next week to see how bad they really are. The plan is to take everything apart and take the housing to get sand blasted.

that plan sounds best. you may also want to look into refurbishing the LSD while everything is apart, but that decision can be made when you see what the components look like, i guess.

Thanks for the advice. I'm wondering if the shops that do powder coating, will also do the sandblasting prior? Two birds with one stone

Just in case I do need calipers, rear -SE Calipers at Blackdragon are $99.00/each. Anyone know of a better price?

Any serious shop that does powder coating will also blast. If they have an oven big enough for a rear end, they do blasting. My estimate on a price to blast just the housing would be $25-$50.

On the calipers, if you can screw the piston in, they can not rebuilt. In all honesty, I'd rather buy rebuilt/new ones then have to rebuild them myself. I found it to be a pain in the butt and the rear rebuild kit is like over $50 so the price difference to me is not that much.
