Found a early production SA
I found a early 79 at a local wrecking yard today. Just out of curiosity, it has a 6/78 build date and the hood prop on the passenger side. Pretty neat. I am just curious to where the vin numbers start to see how early this was made. May take the vin plate under the hood. Had a black interior too. Shame to see whole cars go to the crusher, especially a SA.

Will get the vin just to know. It is in Las Vegas. I dont have anywhere to put it since I am just doing some work in the area. Plus I already have a 77REPU 79S 88vert and a 93 R1 at home, in other words, I already have my hands full.

79 SA 512559 build date 7-78 but according to the Victoria British catalog, the production dates for 79 were from 3/78 to 6/79 with numbers 500001 - 568500, but who knows if that is entirely correct.
Anyway great find, are the taillights and license plate lights in good shape. I need passenger side tail and both license. Along with Paint, interior, dash, seats, both front fenders, hood, valance, bumper, tires. Did I skip anything? Oh well just a complete restore should do it. But the car was the right price and it runs like a top.

The one I am looking at has a build date of 5/78,and is a east coast car.I think it is pretty early for an east coaster. It is a Yellow GS w/76xxx original miles,no AC,no moonroof five speed w/black interior. It has not been run in 5 years, but has full documentation from the one owner. It does have a few minor issues like dings/scratches,and a dent on the pass side door near the handle, and I have not heard it run, because it has no battery, and to be honest I didn't want to risk hurting the motor after sitting so long. The engine spins free, and I heard 6 distinct chugs from the two rotors during 3 rotations of the eccentric shaft, while turning the motor with a ratchet.Do you think it is worth the $2000 the owner wants?

i have a pretty early '79 that is getting restored right now. just out of curiosity, does anyone know when they made the changes to the 79's? mine only has one mirror, but i have seen other 79's with two. so i was just wondering how long they made "my style" '79 before they changed them. also, besides the mirrors, what else did they change?

to answer a few questions, the car is complete so if you want anything email me and I can find the cost. I will only charge what they charge me plus the shipping. I will be taking some parts off for mine so it will be no prob to yank some other parts. I do a bunch of traveling from Vegas to San Diego so I could probably drop off for someone along their. Also, It is at the Henderson NV. U pull it
Thanks
Shaun

If the body and interior were mint, I might go 1000-1200 and not ask questions about the rest of the mechanicals. But that would be a stretch. Also don't forget the dreaded bin and wheelwell rust.
