found a 79 in VERY good condition...
iv been driving by this house for months now lookin at the 7 everytime i go by. so today i decide to go look and see what year/trim level it is. by the time i get to the car and back to my car...my girl friend had already gone and knocked on the door and got the guy coming out.
turns out he used to work at the mazda dealership...hes the original owner and has EVERY reciept for it. even the reciept for the full exhaust and the recipt for when he had it change to the 80 distrubter. and for the 84 rims/tires. interior was completely redone (still in ok shap now) and even has...BACK SEATS. has no sunroof. never been in a wreck. no dents. needs paint bad.
then he went and poped the hood....and OH MY GOD. EVERYTHING was perfectly clean. no oil leak...no dirt. nothing. no rust on headers or anything for that matter.
he was an older black guy...nicest person i think iv ever met. he told me since i came looking for it...and since im a kid that as long as its a decent offer...its mine.
only bad things...hasnt been started in a year. :-( . and im gona have to get it started to get it home...and its going to be my daily driver...so i need to get it started...but b/t me and him im sure we could do it. in the hour we talked...he proved to me that he knew what he was talkin about.
sorry for the long post im just really excited.
Thanks
Brad
P.S. im going to take pics tomorrow i think ...should have some up soon if i do.

Hey, don't loose this chance to get a 79. They are probably the rarest 1st gens out there and if you can find one, no matter what the condition, you should get it. Keep that thing original and get a paint job done, in the original colour. You'll thank yourself in the end. A 79 in good condition will go for more than $5000!
hey man, that sounds like a sweet deal. Gotta love the very first year of the fb other than the cosmos. Anyways, i wish that i could find a deal like that, i need a daily driver, then i could do a bridge-port and all....anyways, dont pass this up!!!
Are you sure you can get that car started? I was under the impression that a rotary left sitting that long would experience dried-out seals and it may never run properly. Any truth to what I'm saying?

My car sat not running for 10 years. I drive it everyday and dont have problems for it. You already have the upgraded dizzy so your good to go. Only thing you should do is rebuild carb and make sure you get all that bad gas out out the tank. I do have a bad oil pan gasket and i'm getting dowl pin leaks but it runs like hell still.
Yeah i've got one of the 3000 limited edition '79s that were made that my dad and i are fixing up. It hasn't run in years and hopefully it'll be my first car. we've already ordered a back windshield for it (it got shattered a year or two ago and the car just sat under a tarp w/o a window ever since) and we're looking at new seats. We tried to start it up a week ago and i think we need to replace the carbuerator and make sure there really wasn't any gas left in it but it was turning over just fine. RX7s are great cars for lasting a long time. Too bad they only have like 100 horsepower stock.

1. Owner was older
2. Owner was a guy
These are all faux pas and will get you flamed. To be politically correct you should omit age, sex, and race from the description. Just say "owner was a human..." or something to that effect. Also be sure to use gender-neutral pronouns. The "nice" description is probably safe AFAIK, but beware of any possible hidden meanings which could be inferred by the reader. And of course never mention the sexual orientation or any fetishes.

Alright knock it off guys. He didnt mean anything negative. I dont want that kinda arguement here. I'm sorry if he offended anyone, but obviously that was not his intention.
Good luck, I hope you get the car and take good care of her.

i went to get pics today...but started raining HARD. but soon enough. all ask about how he got the back seat in.
im having a problem tho. he told me to name a price. and this car look like it was his baby for a while. he took good care or it till the last year or so. and i dont want to offend him by pricing to low...but i dont wanna pay more then i would have to either.
not sure what i should do.
he wouldnt name me a price..but maybe i can talk him into giving me a ballpark figure.
i thought about telling him that the blue book for an 84 in the same condition was about $600...but once again i dont wanna offend him.

i got an aftermarket seat for my 79, bought it w/o knowing what year it was for... turns out it wouldn't have fit in any other year... i just had to drill holes into the braces and the seat had tabs with holes lined up to my braces. a few self tapping bolts later, it's a happy 4 seat car. the bitch was trying to modify the storage compartment sheet metal to make a surround for the seats... lotsa welding.
i had bins for it... the sheet metal fit just fine, i just had to slit the tops of the bins so they would mold with the carpet around the braces... took a whopping 5 minutes to modify.
As far as I know, the only SA's and FB's to have back seats were the ones sold in Japan. Someone musta had that thing shipped over here. I think you've got quite a car on your hands.
I don't think you'll affend him. You've probably already impressed him with you knowledge of rotary engines. He most likely realizes that its just going to sit there for years if he doesn't get rid of it. But if he sells it to you, he'll know that it went to a good home, where it will get the care it needs. I would say offer what you think is fair.
To tell you the truth, I, myself, wouldn't offer anything. I know if I offered anything in my budget that it wouldn't be enough. I just wounldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I cheated a guy out of a potentially valuable car. I actually saw a mint 79 appraised at $8000 CND. So thats about $5500 USD.
But this is just what I think. I'm kind of a softy when it comes to dealing with people. I'm not a very good negotiator.
