Exclamation Formal Introduction of Chris_G (w/ Pics)

Hey all -

I would like to introduce myself before I start posting on here, that way people will know a little more about me when I post.

My name is obviously Chris and I live in Western New York. I am a senior in High School and will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology for Print Media.

I currently work two jobs. One is at a print shop doing business cards, letterheads, etc. and the other job is at The Greece Stereo Shop dealing with car audio, plasma/LCD TV, home audio, etc.

My first car was a 1993 Eclipse. Before I bought it, the previous owner ran into what appears to be the back of a truck. The front end was mangled and decided to take on a project and learn about body work. I'll have to find some pictures at a later date. Unfortunitly it is non-turbo and a little 1.8l 5 speed.

Recently I found a 1984 RX-7 GS. I started doing some searching and found this place. The car has 99,000 miles on it. the car is VERY clean with NO rust what-so-ever. It has the rear seat option which I do not know anything about other than it is kind of rare to see in America?

I am repainting it facotry red with some metallic in the clear to give it some extra flash, hopefully it will look nice.

On with the pictures;

Day 1

Starting to look great! The rear seat option, to my knowledge, is pretty rare in the US. I would really like to have it, haha.

I recovered the top of a door panle the same way too, nice work. I also have a back seat ins my GSL SE, very rare, I would suggest you keep the back seat just for the rare conversational value if none other.

Screw the seat, it's in the best spot of the car. Subs, storage, battery reloc, all lost for what? So 2 midgets or kids can go with you! Fa-ged-aboud-it.

Day 9 was slow as I was ill, but day 10 I got right back it. Not too much more to go before filler and popping out the minor dents.

Still have the roof and the front/rear bumpers as well as the bottom parts. The plastic stuff really.

Day 9-10

I think the car will look great once completely. Its awesome that you are doing everything so quickly, just don't rush everything and mess something up.

Just a tip- the back seats are only good for storage :P Although we have crammed a few people in on occasions... Even gave my mates girlfriend months of back pain... bad lol.

Are you going to remove the bump strips all around the car? I think the car has a newer appearance without them, however obviously if people open their doors into your car, you get damage... i wonder if ther'd be another style of those strips that would look better..

My mate has repainted his black and it looks great - see pic here: http://stuff.pw.cx/CIMG2196%20(Custom).JPG

btw sweet looking 7, it's gonna be awesome

welcome to the forum!

85 GSL - The marker lights are unscrewed but placed back in the hole so I dont get them damaged. I will take them completely off before primer.

Normaility - I completely agree with you about rushing. I believe that the prep work makes a paint job. You can have the most expensive paint in the world, but with a crappy prep job it will look like crap.

H4Inf - The back seat is very pointless. I decided this when I got the car. I have had thought about making my own storage area back there and build my subwoofer box with it. The seats are relatively rare according to this site, so I figured I will keep them in. Plus, they are in amazing condition!

Just a second note, take the taillights out. It is very easy to do, and that little step will give you a lot more finished look, rather than a macco paint job. Also, give you a chance to clean them up, and possibly wet sand them with like 2000 or finer and make them look new again.
