Talking Ford 8.0" rear end swap

Ok, so dont hate me here, I cannot search for some reason, I press the search and nothing happens...

so here is my question, I have been lookin and looking for a replacement axel for my SA rear so I can either swap in 5 lug axels (respeed) or have the stock one redrilled to 5x4.5 pattern. I have been unable to locate either in WA state. Or ID for that matter.

my goal is a GXL-SE rear axel but that is like finding the holy grail up here.

so I was told that a ford 8.0 from a Maverick or a Comet is the same width and is a 5x4.5 pattern and from what I have read strong as any GXL-SE axel.

Has anyone perfomred this swap?? I have been seeing that you can get these axles in salvage yards for as little as 50 bucks, there is a huge aftermarket support for them and swapping in rear disk brakes from a Lincoln MKVII is a cheap and easy swap. Hell even looks like the stock parking brake lines will work.

so I am asking what your thoughs on this are, I know it might be slightly heavier. but well worth the ease of parts availability and such.

thanks

I've heard of ford rear end stuff on 1st gens countless times, but I'm not 100% sure about the Maverick/Comet ones.

bottom of page are not relating to for 8.0" it talks about a 8.8 in a fc and another post for 8.8" neither of which I am using, the 8.0 is a smaller version of the ford 9 inch.

Forgot. Try grannyspeed.com they offer the larger ford conversions, they may also be able to shed some light on the 8.0 :-)
