Hey guys! I am getting ready to replace the clutch in my 79' RX-7. I need to have the flywheel resurfaced bad, but I have heard that this will throw off the balance between the counterweights or something. Any input??? Am I supposed to drop another $250 on a new flywheel? I kinda want to hold out on a new flywheel for now due to a lack in $$$.

Go ahead and resurface the flywheel,when done have the flywheel balanced with the counter weight.. maybe something like $25.00 dollors for the machining, and $10.00 - $20.00 dollors for the balancing. and your good to go .

 

I paid $42 for mine. Pulled pins, resurfaced, cleaned, polished, pins re-inserted, balanced, ready to go out the door .

Make sure the shop you take it to KNOWS how to do a flywheel for a rotary. -WG

Yeah. Its not that im worried or anything, because the guy that did mine had a Tubo II out in the parking lot, and he had a 13B torn apart in the shop, and he was resurfacing some plates, so Im sure he would know what to do with it. I just always thought that it was the same process .

PS - Now that I think about it, I bet he would re-surface my center plates and stuf fairly cheap, especially since I am a fellow rotor-head .

 

Hell no !! If anything, he'd stick ya, because it's a rotory.
ha,ha, brushing up any 'plates' would mean thats a hi-performance internal mod. so the cost ' could' be up there. if anything it's just labor. good idea though. that was probaly his own engine too.
