Flywheel Question
Flywheel Question
I have a well running '83 GSL engine / transmission that I am swapping into an '82 GS. I pulled the engines and trannys from both, and pulled the '82 clutch and found the disk to be 215mm.....as expected.
My question is about the 215mm flywheel; are the stock flywheels significantly thinner? I was shocked by the difference in thickness between the 82 and 83 flywheels. They are both are same OD, but the '83 is about twice as thick. I've read that this is to compensate for lighter rotors, but didn't realize that it was by so much.
Anyone know the weight of the '82 era flywheel? Are they ever run as an alternative to an aftermarket lightweight steel flywheel?
I'll post pic's once I figure out how.....

ctrl; I've done some research and had concluded that a lighter steel one be a better fit on a mostly street driven car - any input?

I've got two fb's..... 1 with, 1 without a lighter flywheel, and I swear it makes a huge difference in how fast your rev's climb upwards.
