Flywheel Nut...which way does it turn???

I have a 85 RX7 Carb manual and I am wondering if anyone knows which way the nut turns to loosen? Is it a reverse thread?

get yourself a flywheel stopper and make life eaiser. the nut size if you dont already know is a 54mm or 2 1/8. 3/4 drive is your best solution. post back if you need help or advice.

Thanks, i got the socket and a 3/4" 18" breaker bar, but cant budge it. I'll have to get a bigger air compressor and air gun. Thanks for the help.

I used a 1/2" impact, but I took the air pressure up as high as it could go. Also, I had to let the gun hammer on it for about 20 seconds before it would move.

Spray some pb blaster, or other penetrating oil on there before hand, will help it come loose. My 1/2" impact gun took it right off. I also have the large wrench that mazdatrix sells; bought it just in case the gun didn't do it

breaker bar i think it far more superior than an impact wrench, I bought a 3 foot one and I tell you there's not a bolt that it couldn't take out with very minimal effort as for the the impact wrench I had, well that just went back to the store, too many bad outcome of it. I would rather "feel" the bolt see if its going to break or not.

I used my little electric impact to remove mine, and the front pulley bolt on one occasion. breaker bars are a pita unless you have the flywheel locked.

If you have a high end compressor and a excellent impact gun you would say differently. The hammering effect of a impact gun is a life saver with some bolts.

But like I said if you get cheaper tools you will be let down... The 1/2" impact gun I use (snap-on Xt-7100) has 700 ft/lbs of torque and it gets most automotive jobs done with ease.

Man.... just some advice... from past experience... Make sure you are using a good quality socket.... I was at the track one weekend and needed to change clutch/flywheel.... and I used a cheap *** socket from like autozone or something... I have a perminant scar on my hand from where the socket literlly broke... Just make sure your using good tools. Typically I use snap-on but that weekend it was all I had...
