Flywheel ????????

This flywheel is on my 83, it is alot different than the one that came off my 84. This one has large "dog ears" around it. My 84 isn't nearly as reccessed. Can anyone tell me which of these is right, or if one is a different kind etc.

this is from the 83'

and this one is the 84'

Thanks! went to MAzdatrix website first, but failed to see that. HOWEVER, It now appears as though the 84 had an 81/82 flywheel on it. I'm assuming that contributed to the galled front rotor bearing and toasted side seals and front and middle iron faces. This is a nightmare of a first build. Both engines seem to be Frankenstiens, and both seem to have been built/ modded by weekend warriors who didn't do thier research and had a love affair with RTV. I was hoping to salvage enough between the two to make most of a repairable motor. PO said the 84 just had a bad apex, and the 83 was good but had been sitting up. LMAO! Don't know whether to laugh at the stupidity or cry at my luck.

Both also seem to have spent the last five years in the ocean.

Did the motor have a nasty vibration before it blew up?

When I installed a '82 motor into my '85 GS, a friend that was helping me put the '85 flywheel on it. As soon as I started it up I could feel a vibration and knew something was wrong.

Other then looks, match up the numbers on the engine side of the flywheel. Then there is no doubt what they go to. A good wire wheel so sandblasting is in order. Those things must have been sitting outside for some time. I'd hate to see in inside of those engines. If they where outside, I bet they have water inside the engines.

I bought both cars in as is "not runing" in Feb. But the P.O. said the 84' just had a blown apex seal. LMAO! As you can see it's a little more involved than that. Turned out the carb had a homemade rebuild and was full of orange RTV, The oil cooler leaks (both bungs cracked) and the motor was full of shavings due to the front rotor bearing being completely galled. side seals in front were toast, and housings (front and middle) were scarred and discolored. Rear housing looks ok, if you ignore the flaking. Oil cooler was mounted via 2 zip ties. It had a beehive on it as well, but it leaked as well, only one bolt was in it and the other was cross threaded. The Flywheel was an 81 (checked #s).
