3 ways that have worked best for me in the past,

1) Pull the choke all the way out ( I mean all the way out) and press the gas pedal all the way down to the floor. (this is for a light flooding)

2) Pour About an ounce of automatic transmition fluid down the carb, let it sit for about 5 minutes and then do procedure #1 (This is for medium Flooding)

3) For extreme flooding, you will have to take out the spark plugs, take out the fuel line and just get a jar or something to catch the fluids coming out of that, then get some paper and place them over the spark plugs holes and to catch the fluids and crank it over for about 20-30 secs. Then before reinstalling the spark plugs get a cloth and wire brush to clean them, then take a lighter to make sure they're dry. Return the fuel line and do step 1

I might have the same prob. The other day I was at a stop light and my 79 quit and wouldn't re-start. I took off the air cleaner and looked down into the venturis. My carb was spilling gas into the carb so much it was pooling on top of the throttle valves. I can get the car to start by just flooring it (not pumping the gas) and cranking it for about 10 seconds until it finally comes to life. But, it still won't idle long before the engine starts to shake violently and then quits. Try doing the same thing I did, TeemSlo (making sure the choke is off). Good luck. Anyone else have suggestions for either of our problems?

I was talking with my uncle as my car is now doing the same thing. Carb rebuild, Either floats are way outta wack or the fuel regulator that the throttle linkage is connected to is old and needs to be replaced, both are a carb rebuild item. YAY.
