flooding badly
I have a Nikki carb, no emissions crap, holley fuel pump, holley fpr. The float bowls are filling completely and flooding the car. I checked the float levels and they seem ok. I've toyed with the fuel pressure setting and even set at what my guage says is 1 PSI the bowls fill up. I have the solenoid plunger thing hooked up.
I don't think I really need to, but I have the return line hooked up. Could that be the problem?

Yeah, I believe you will need the return line and the restrictor that goes on it. You might try tapping on the top of the carb if you think the needle valves might be sticking. Is this a fresh carb rebuild by any chance?

I've got the return line connected. I didn't mess with that. It's not a fresh rebuild, either. But I will take a look at the needles and seats, maybe swap them out with some others I have.

It'a a Holley Blue. Yes, unregulated it would be an overkill. But I have the holley FPR on there with the 1-4 PSI spring inside so the pressure should be low enough. I better double-check the spring though. I have a cheap pressure guage, but again it ought to read close enough to tell me I'm in the ballpark for pressure. I do have the nagging feeling that's my problem (pressure) because that's the only change. I did not have this problem before pulling the old, dying fuel pump.

I resolved the problem but don't really know what caused it. After measuring and re-measuring the floats (with a caliper) and failing to stop the bowls from filling, I replaced the airhorn with one from my spare carb. No more full bowls. I assume the problem was with the needles or seats, but don't know or sure. The ones on the problem airhorn looks nice and shiny; the ones on the airhorn I have on now look dull but apparently seat better.
Now I get to figure out why there's no fuel spraying out of the rear venturi nozzle when I work the throttle by hand.

Thanks. I'll remove that bastard and decrudify it. You're talking about the main jet, the one in the float bowl, right? I already examined, cleaned and blew compressed air through the bleeds and what the diagram calls the "slow jet."
