Flames
well last night i was driving in front of another 1st gen owner (bad83) and we were coming home from a meet and on the interstate i floored it and got out in front then nailed it again and let off and he called me on my cell and told me i shot twin flames about 6 inches out of my rb exhaust. now this has never happened and im not sure if its normal or if its bad. what could have caused this (mods on sig) and is it okay does it hurt the motor? thanks just curouis if this will cause issues if it happens thanks robert

i dont need an ignitor :P my headers glow red hot after 5 mins on the freeway. but i wouldnt mind rigging up one of those actual flamethrower kits, make like 3 feet plumes of flame out the exhaust pipe.

GOT WANKEL?
no for your gas grills, there is normally a red button that you push to produce a spark similar to a spark plug and they sell the kits at any home improvement store for around $15. how would you trigger the spark plug in the method you are thinking about?

Advance your timing a bit, and you'll keep the flames in the engine where they produce power. You're wasting your horsies at this point...

blwfly ---- You can't just rig a simple wire with a switch to a spark plug in the tail pipe. Not enough current. I know that the kits for a Flamethrower Kit has everything EXCEPT the needed coil and spark plug. Also note that they do not recommend this kit for vehicles with catalytics.

Well, It sorta did. It was mentioned earlier that its due to your modefied exhaust. I used to shoot large flames from my tailpipe as well, but my car started to run really poorly so I cleaned up all the spark plug wiring and connections and changed the intake gasket. This caused my flame shooting to stop. I have a feeling that my flames were being caused by poor ignition, since I still have a straightpipe and free-flowing muffler. If it infact isnt just because of your exhaust, my thoughts are the trailing ignition. Make sure none of the spark plug wire connections on the wires, plugs, and distributor cap have any corrosion on them, and if they do, just sand em down with some sandpaper till they look like metal again. If thats not it I dont know what to tell ya.

well here is the deal, i have the 2nd gen igntion upgrade but not totally sure if the trailing is working properly. this is the first time i have had this happen, pretty much everything to do with the motor is rebuilt or new, new rebiuld, new intake and exhaust and carb, and well everything but distributor is new and its and electronic distributor used off a 82. my main concern is is this going to damage my car if it happens occasionally? thanks

well actually I shoot flames too and there is nothing bad about it. If in all seariausness it is just becouse you are runing a little rich and when you flored it and let it go and did it again it dumped a lot of fuel into your exhoust and cabum you got flames just dont wory aabout it and keep on flaming.
