Fixed: 38-45Mph vibration

Moral: start simple

Car's been vibrating since i bought it about a year ago...

After trying everything i could think of, I finally took someone's advice on this group and decided to get my driveshaft checked/balanced. I took it off the other day, and noticed something odd - there were only 3 bolts holding it on.

Took it to the shop, and asked the guy - no, that couldn't cause the problem. He checked it out, said the rear half was out-of-round and fixed that - $69.

Put it on tonite. With it still on stands and only connecting two bolts, spun it @ 3000rpm in 5th - very smooth. Put in the 3rd bolt, ran the same speed - familiar vibration. Took the 3rd bolt out (so now only have 2 on opposite sides) and went for a drive. Wow! this is how the car is supposed to ride!!!!

Lesson learned - start simple.

At least I have brand new rear axle bushings to go along with my smooth ride

Yeah, My car did the same thing when I didn't get the bolts completely tight after working on the tranny.

same problem here for a year or so vibration a little above and below 40mph.....this morning unbolted driveshaft from rear end and found 2 types bolts and nuts. two had splines, other two not..... put same pairs opposite each other....tightened it up and vibration is way reduced......still slightly there....maybe will have the driveshaft balanced soon......love those low budget fixes.....

Why dont you guys just get 4 new bolt and call it a day. It should cost less then a value meal and will be a lot safer then running 2 bolts. Why wait for it to fall off?

I had the exact same problem on the 7 I purchased - a 40 mph vibration due to only 3 bolts on the rear connection.
