Fix/replace ACV? Source?

I have a stock 1982 no swaps, full rats nest, et al.

My ACV doesn't work very well. I'd like to make it work properly so I can pass state emissions.

Many of you say make a bypass to go straigt to the cat. I'm pretty confident they'll catch that. The smog only shops around here are pretty precise. I took my wife's car in two weeks ago and he got out a shop manual to hunt for parts. My car went last year to a different shop, similar drill.

So the question is, can I buy a new ACV? Local aftermarket shops don't seem to be able to get it, but I might not be calling it a name they recognize.

A local shop offered to rebuild mine for $300. That seems steep, but maybe its ok?

Any other suggestions for acquiring one? I bought a used one two years ago off the forum that was no better than the one I had. If this is a wear item and all of ours are about the same agent, aren't they all likely to be equally worn out?

Anyone have any comments/help/suggestions?

Scott

I know you are leery about used parts, but if you are interested in any of the emmisions equipment, let me know what all you want. I have everything off my '83 GSL sitting in a box. I also have a brand new purge valve that cost about 50 bucks from the dealer. Let me know if you might be interested. I will make you a good deal on any of that stuff. Everything was in good working order when removed last fall.

I don't know how thorough they are, but you can remove the ACV and just plumb the Air Pump directly. All it will do is dump "too much" fresh air in with the exhaust. Remember, the solution to pollution is dilution

If they're real ***** about it, I'm sure someone on here has a spare one they've removed. If mine wasn't siezed to all hell when I took it off, I'd give it to ya.
