Question fit engine flywheel onto tranny

alright, i recently over heated my 83 gsl and the engine died. i really like that car so i put a different engine into it. i also have a 79 rx7 that the body went to hell on and that 12a engine only has 65k original miles. so i took that engine out of the 79 and put it on my work bench. i then pulled out my engine of my 83 gsl and put that engine next to the other one on the bench. now the flywheels were a little different so i switched them so the 83 flywheel was with the 83 tranny. now when i put the engine in and and started it up and it ran better than the other engine did. but my problem is that the clutch and tranny have no response. it runs but dont move. anyone who has any ideas or who has had this happen before get back to me asap. i want to fix it by tomorrow. thanx for your suport guys.

A little hard to follow, but what you are saying is that you put a '83 flywheel on a '79 engine..... You need to have the flywheel match the engine not the transmission otherwise the engine/rotor assembly will not be balaced.

Which also means you need to run a clutch and pressure plate for a '79 engine.

ok um sorry if that is confusing up there but what i have done is put an 83 flywheel on a 79 engine, and it worked out fine. i put the engine in and bolted it to the tranny. now it was hard to get it to go on. i mean it was a bitch. but eventualy it went on. i hooked everything up and i got it running and went to back it out of the garage and it went nowhere. i put it in first and it dont move. i hear no sounds from the tranny. i have a new clutch and pressure plate on this flywheel. this flywheel that i am having trouble with is from this 83 car.

a '79 engine has a 30lb. flywheel and at the '83 engine has a 26lb flywheel. The engine is balaced to the front counter weight, rotors and rear flywheel. You would have to install a lightweigh flywheel and a '79 automatic rear counter weight to be it to be balanced.

The engine is no longer balanced, you rev that engine to 7,000rpms yet? SHould vibrate like crazy.

Have somebody push in on the clutch pedal and see if the transmission fork moves?

Did you remember to put the throwout bearing on?
