If you are trying to pull the engine and tranny as one unit the yes. If you are just dropping the tranny then no. Hopefully this helps you.

When I got my car I had to replace my clutch. I did remove the exhaust just to give myself more room to drop the trany out. The other Benifit that it gave me it let me inspect the exaust for holes and rust.

This is exactly what I did.

I junked the heat sheild as well. I havn't seen any damage to anything because of heat since.

Lokirx7.1 and I did my transmission in what should have been a four hour job. Since it was all ready mashed up we let it rest on the cat and let it drop out the bottom. Getting the new one back in was the hard part. It's good to have a third person around, even a fourth to help with the job. I had to bench the transmission in place and hold it there for long long long periods of time and it was terrible.

i just took mine out for the first time -

and i removed the exhaust and heat shield - it gives you a lot of room to work if you dont have a lift and need to crawl around under there.

Sounds a lot like what I had to do at least its fairly light, and looks like I might have to do it again. Just fryed my clucth Sunday screwing arround. Dumped the clutch and a whole lot of nutin. Anyway enough about me, at least you got it done hey.

Nice title on this thread M.I.B. R&R on the tranny is no big deal really, just don't let it drop on your chest when removing (don't ask).
