That #9 has the Group B bodykit. Not sure if it's a replica or one of the very small handful of Group B RX-7s built by privateers. (Mazda had nothing to do with them)

that is a sweet car. at the moment i am not to worried about money. not that i have cash coming out my ears but i am 17 so i have almost no financial responsibility and i work a full time job. right now i am not to focused on lots of power or super nice suspension. the first thing i need to do is run some auto and rally cross so that i can get a good feel for the car and move on from there. if any one has any advice on what parts of the car to start with so that i can set my sights it would be cool.

According to someone selling a Group B RX-7 in I think Norway, it's still available.

Rallycross/hillclimb guys tend to use it since it's available, and presumably inexpensive. European rallycross cars tend to go through a lot of body panels.

mmmmmm, European rallycross kicks ***.

I was so excited when I heard about SCCA rally cross coming out. I was disappointed when it turn out not to be door to door competition.

If you want door to door rallycross type action then go ice racing.

Supposedly there is a group in California (non SCCA) running Euro style rallycross.

There's a new series in Detroit (non SCCA) that is mixed surface like they do it but it is not door to door, just two cars on course starting 180deg out. I'm going to one of those on Saturday to check it out.

You're kidding, right?

Nationals are in Nashville next weekend. People are coming from 20+ hours away to be there. That region is one of the better rallycross regions in the nation.

I'd be going, but the expense would be brutal. Not just the drive but hotel for three nights and time off of work. Lots of my friends are going to be there, though.

You'll even see a 1st gen there - or two. My son and I are signed up in prepared and there's one signed up in stock. The event begins with practice on Friday.

Go the NSS gate. The event is behind the speedway.

i got my rx7 today. its sweet! most of the cars that i have driven have either been trucks,( stiff springs, rides like ****, and handles like ****) or jello boxes(my moms 93 camry). super gay. the rx7 on the other hand has firm springs and shocks but dose not ride like a truck. the handling is pretty good. i had some fun tonight on a windy road. the car got a little unsettled in one or two of the curves and over one crest but all in all i am pleased. power is not god like but that is probably for the better. its quite good though. enough to be fun but not to much for a newb. ill post some pix tomorow. not sure if i can go to the nationals but i will try.

i did not go to the nationals. it was to late in the day before i could leave the house. oh well. i did work on my car though. change the oil ond all that. i pulled the ac. what a waste of weight. to day i gutted the interior. the car has a few little rust spots here and there but in general it is in goog shape.
are rx7 always hard to start if you warm them up and then shut them off? when i go in to town or somthing i either have to leave the car running or stay for half an hour. is that normal for an old rx or is there some ajustment that i can make. any advise would be cool. its getting to be a pain in the ***.

Either a trashed internal coolant seal or maybe a bad o-ring on the intake -*somehow* letting coolant run over and into the ports.

regarding rallying.

Actually stage rallies are NOT cheap. Even if you get through the expense of building the car the costs to compete are very high. Rally tires are about 200 a piece, and a longer stage rally you can find yourself going through more than one set. Especially if you want to have the ability to adapt to changing conditions

The first generation rx7 is a commonly rallied car BUT does have some draw backs. The steering is a big one. The suspension all around could be improved. The factory rear end of any sort really won't last. Even with the reinforcements, they will bend. You can run the factory axle, but just stock up on them.

The REspeed stuff to be honest will NOT take rally abuse from what i can tell. Anything mean for road course use may not be ideal.

Also a good FIA cage (ie legal and SAFE) will run you almost 3400. Even with that the car is small and doesnt have much wiggle room with compacting itself if your very tall.

A lot of these reasons is why i am NOT using a first gen. Im using a 87 turbo II.

if your preparing a group 5 car, then you can run any mazda made engine and forced induction is allowed (even to previously naturally aspirated engines).

So if your dead set on an FB you can run a turbo II engine if you like. But the costs to compete again go up and the reliability of the car will go down.

for the rear axle could you use the rear end out of a toyota 4x4. they are used with big tires and put under lots of stress. rock crawling and all that. you can get lsd, lockers or what ever.

actually the 8" toyota is popular due to them being common and have cheap gear sets.
