Question First Car Options

Hi. I'm looking into buying a 1983 RX7 as a first car. The one I've seen has done 100,000 km or about 66,000 miles. It looks awesome! They're asking $6000AU. I'm just wondering is a rotary a good first car, or do they cost a bit to maintain. Also what kind of problems should i be looking out for?
Thanks
Mark

my first car was a 79... i wouldn't have it any other way! they're not too costly to maintain. are you mechanically inclined? if not, you will be soon! i learned how to fix cars by playing around with my old 79(i sure do miss her sometimes). if you do have to fix anything, chances are, it'll be pretty easy to do.

6,000.00 AUD Australia Dollars = 3,106.69 USD United States Dollars

Yeah, I would say that is a bit much for a stock first gen with that many miles on it. I paid $1,200 for my '83 GSL and it only had minor rust and the only reason why I paid that much for it, is because I needed a car badly!

Check for rust behind the cargo bins(just get a screw driver and unscrew the cargo bin to see behind it). That is one thing you want to look out for.

I do think 1st Gen's make awsome fist cars. They are fun to drive, easy to fix, but of course each one has it's own personality. If you take care of it, then it will take care of you.

From what I've learned is that parts are moderately expensive, but if these cars are maintained they don't break much so it works out. Mine has 188,000 miles on it and still going strong.

Just make sure you learn the quirks of rotaries. (Don't use synthetic oil, don't drive em hard when they're cold, etc)

$6000AU (That's what, $4000 US?) Probably isnt too bad if the thing is in mint condition.
