yes but it would be running retarded ignition, the easy way to tell is disconnect the trailing leads and see if it runs.

If it doesnt then you have no leading spark

i jsut installed DLFIS. and it if i disconnect the trailing lead it doesnt start. But i the leading coils wont ignite unless the trailng coil has posritive power. thats how i wired it. But when i start it it idles great. The engine seams to have the same power. If it had no leading spark it would have horrible power wouldnt it. IT revs smooth and perfect with not misses all the way up to 8000

what about if you leave the trailing leads connected but just unplug them from the spark plugs and tape them up.

Or wire it seperately

out of interest whats a DLFIS??

it wired to where the leading speak plugs each get their own coil. U need 2 more ignitors and wire them in parrallel from the distributor pickups. THen wire 2 coils in parralel and run the wires right out of the coils right to the spark plugs. THe trailng coil stays where it is.

If you disconnected the trailing side it won't start because it get's it' signal for the fuel pump from the trailing side.

And you would notice if you were just running on the trailing side. You would have zero power.

exactly. When the key is on the trailing coil gets power. I wired off of this power to turn on a relay, gives power to my 2 ignitors and the positive side of the 2 coils. But doctor, what your saying is that if it were truley not getting spark to the 2 leading spark plugs, it would run noticiably worse then if it were getting spark to the leading plugs. Because it runs exactly like it did before DLIDFIS if no slightly bettter. the most noticable difference is that i cannot smell any unbeunred fuel in the exhaust at all.

What I'm saying is that the trailing side is only about 2% of the power. Meaning that the car couldn't get out of it's own way and would hardly rev up.

My brother had his battery slide back and disconnected the plug running to his leaing ignitor. Somehow he drove the car about 1/2 mile back home on only trailing ignition!

I could'nt believe it, but somehow the car drove and accelarated up to the 30 mph limit here in town, albeit poorly. The car is running the points system still I think too.

I honestly ran my old 85 GSL on trailing for about 6 months. What happened is one day I was driving and had a total loss of power. Found out that my negative battery cable had corroded right through.

After I replaced the cables I was always down on power and the car was harder to start and flooded easily. Quite a while later I found out that it took out my leading ignitor so I have no spark.

So to sum it up, the car will still run, but it will seem very gutless...
