Filling Up Transmission

I was going to replace the fluid in my manual transmission / 5-speed today but before I drained it I noticed the quart doesn't fit to the filler neck enough to be able to put fluid into it. What is everyone's method in putting fluid into the trans?

i try to find a bottle with a pointy end, cut the end off, and then just cram the bottle in there (it folds in half), i bend and smash the bottle. you get 1/2 to 3/4 of the quart in there, so you have to do this twice, but its much better than using those stupid pumps

I picked up a small hand pump which had a hose on one end and just put it into the filler hole.

I used some clear line that was just lying in the garage for no reason, but I'm sure a few feet of fuel/vac hose would do the same. Basically I got the pointed tip bottle and fit one end of the hose onto the tip, other end of the hose into the transmission, and a drip pan under the tranny so when you hear it hit you know you're full.

Just get one of those pumps that fits on the container. Makes its a lot easier.

Never seen a tranny yet that was easy to fill without one.

I do it this way too. I use a long hose on the bottle and stick the other end into the fill hole from above in the engine bay. No need to crawl under the car except to remove the drain and fill plugs.

I got an air hose that was junk, cut it to length, stuck one end into into my filler, pulled the other end to the engine bay and out to fill it up, thanks for the advice though, I'll keep the hose for future uses lol

Best trick I saw was to punch a hole in the cap of the fluid bottle and push a small palstic hose to the bottom. This will feed oil.

Then make a small hole in the top on the side and use your air compressor with a fitting to blow the fluid out the top hose.

This is my plan!

I used this.
Amazon.com: OTC (2359) Oil Suction Gun: Automotive Amazon.com: OTC (2359) Oil Suction Gun: Automotive
..
before I used this:
Great Neck OEM 25713 Fluid Transfer Pump - - Amazon.com Great Neck OEM 25713 Fluid Transfer Pump - - Amazon.com

Now the 1st one is faster..Suck up fluid out of the gallon jug, hope under car..squirt..Repeat until full and oil oozes out of filler plug location..done!
the other one, you have to worry about the hose falling off,and you have to push on the pump slow....BUT it does have enough hose to fish the hose down from the engine bay to the trans filler location.

I use the transfer pump type also. The issue I've had is the end opposite the plunger can blow off. Have to keep a hand on the bottom of the pump. Still works good though.

This works beautifully. Also warm up the bottle in a bucket of hot water beforehand.

I do the same thing but used regular rubber hose. Hang the funnel on the inside of the hood. It holds the whole quart. I pour and walk away. Lol

I use a rack at work......

BUT if you have an SA transmission you can take the gear shifter out and pour the gear oil straight down into the transmission.
