Trying to make your own muffler are you? steel wool might work, but keep in mind that rotaries run much hotter than boingers.

well you see what i am planning on buying is a header, withe the connecting pipe that is glass packed, im going to find out if its steel wool or fiberglass, i was told fiberglass would melt very fast, and i also heard of people replacing the fiberglass pack with steel wool, i already baught a 150$ universal SS muffler, if anyone has done this please reply with success or no success heh.

Yes stainless steel packing is the way to go. Do you have one of those GT type mufflers that have spring loaded end casings that you can open up and pack yourself? Those have been packed with lava rock as well. After racing around you can cook up some BBQ skewers inside it

ok sory about this but this is what i was trying to say heh, i have a SS muffler already, its a big ricer but i got it as a gift so ya cant go wrong... better than some midas speacial heh... anyway this is what i am probaly going to be purchasing, im just making sure "Header back to a long glasspack, no muffler" the fellow said it came of a 82 12a , so im guessing that it is steel wool instead of fiberglass becuase obviously the fiberglass will melt...

Fiberglassed muflers are not recommended but the 7s I have owned or installed exhast on friends 7 dont 'melt and blow out".
I run a RB road race header "y "Off the 2.5 in pipe to a twister racing muffler with no fiber glass or steel wool in side to a DTM tip Mozart muffler,Yes it has gotten louder BUT its not the high pitched ricey sound you hear from other rotarys. Its deep low toned..

Exhast Tip#1.... DO NOT run glass packs as a presilencer and do not run Flowmasters...

The glass pack wil melt inside they are cheap as hell.
Flowmasters doesnot flow and the way its made inside will give the rotary a mettalic ping sound.

Steel wool will probably wust and disintegrate nearly as quick as fiberglass. Use SS wool.

i have a dual outlet header....and I have 2 glass packs.... offf of a 63 chevy shortbed... lol... they arent original.. anyways...

I am gonna slice them open with a band saw.... then suff them with stainless steel wool... then weld them back up......................... PRESILENCERS!!!!!!

Then they will collect before the axle, go over it, and Y back out to harley mufflers.... they act as a presilencer, the way they are built.......... I wonder how loud it will be.....

I have everything.... except a welder and a band saw... and the wool, cause I havent been able to find SS... just steal...
is there such thing as SS wool?

I cant do anything right now to it all... cant even go to boring school... I got the damn flu, and a 102 fever, a terrible cough... the hole nine yards... it hurts to do aything... typing hurts, talking, sitting up....reading... anything...

any ways, laterz..

This is what i am going to do if it is fiberglass, but the buddy told me that it came of a 82 12a (header, longglasspack , no muffler....) so if it isnt SS wool already, im going to cut it and stuff it with SS wool....weld it backtogether for a presilencer.lol i just realized that i have been posting steel wool instead of SS wool this whole time, god im a retard.
