Question few question's regarding my 85 gsl-se

ok, i just changed my fuel filter like last week and im lookin at my gas gauge and it seem's to be going down faster than before with the new filter than the old one...that's my 1st question, 2nd...my spedo cable came out a while back and was draggin on the street for a lil less than a mile but was later put back in the spot it came from but my spedo doesnt work any more being connected an everything what could b wrong? 3rd question my rear end is leaking an i looked at it an it and it looks like it's gonna b a pain in the ***, is it really? 4th question...where is the OMP located because since someguy replaced my oil pan gasket it's been reading 0 what can i do 2 fix this? and finally...to lube my actuator's can i just spray some wd40 on 'em?

well it sounds like the underside of your car is a mess along with your guage cluster. speedometer cables don't just fall out of transmissions. if your speed-o was working before and is not now, you need to install the end back into the transmission. leave the omp alone and check out the oil presure sender/wires.
if the rearend leaks, it's not that hard to fix,get a new gasket and a couple of quarts of limited slip gear oil, on level ground drain the rearend, the plug is in the middle on the bottom of the housing , remove the fill plug and it will drain faster. remove the driveshaft, pull both axles and then pull the 3rd member. clean the gasket surface's with a wire wheel, you may want to use some degreaser and clean up under the car because your going to get very dirty doing this job if you don't. i would also say it's a good idea the buy a book.

the underside isnt really that messed up other than the rear end leaking, as for the spedo cable it is back in it's place but it's still not workin...is there supposed 2 be something comming out of the cable when it's entered into the tranny that ride's off a gear in there or somethin? and thnx for your response man i appreciate it

If I remember correctly Mark is right about the oil pressure sending unit. It is located in the oil pan, so if they did the gasket chances are they could have knocked some wires lose. Mark is also correct about the rearend. NOT a hard job at all. Sounds harder than what it is. As for the speedo....well, if it was dragging on the pavement then, there is no telling without seeing it.

well physically it just look's scuffed round the outside edge of the threaded part other than that it look's fine but what i dont know is if there was something in the center of the cable that may have came out while it was being dragged down the street that could possibly have made it inoperable from that point on

Yes if the long round part that screws onto the tranny and is attached to the cable doesn't have a rod in the center which is squared off then you've lost the actual cable. Do you have a dremmel with the "hose" attachement by any chance? It works exactly like that. There's the cable inside with a square end that inserts into the tranny and then transfers the spin up to your gauge cluster.

If you take the cable back off you'll see in the center on the tranny where the cable should be mating too.

If you lost it, it's easy to replace I think... Just grab a cable core from a wrecker and lube it up, slide it back in your current cable. Just before it's all the way in you might have to spin it a little to mate the end up at the guages, but that will save you from having to pull your cable off your cluster and out of your firewall which is a PITA.
