fender flare rust, NOW WHAT??

I was removing a patch of rust on the rear fender and to my disgust it seems to be worse than I had expected. I have a few possible solution.

1 cut out the inner "shield" weld new patch to repace the rusted one

2 cut out fender replace with fender off doner car.

3 call up mariahmortorsports and get a mode 1 widebody.

I like the widebody but not enough to drop 1200 on it

anysuggestions?

Rust is always 10X's as bad as it looks. Car rust from the inside out. By the time you see the rust, its way way advanced. Rust is like cancer unless you get rid of it all, it will be back to recalim another part of the body ...

1200 is cheap for the bodykit, thats not bad at all..

When a new quarter is like 600, if you can find a new one

the panels are the rear on the unibody so I do not see getting a new unibody. would be nice though.

I have replaced the rear quarter on an 80, its not too bad. Of course I have done a crapload of bodywork... I also put a sunroof in an 85. Id say if you a little versed in body work, start grinding the metal with a DA and see exactly how far the rust goes. If its just at the bottom tip then you porbally can fabricate some sort of a patch panel. When welding metal together TRY TO AVOID overlapping it, if at all possible. The overlapping of metal will become a pocket for moisture etc.. and therefore will rust again, especially if there a LITTLE present around it...

after a little closer inspection it seems to be the inner wheel well. the flare, while rusted in one spot the flares feel sturdy when I press against it. could I just remove the wheel wheel clean up the rust and paint the inside and weld a newer wheel well or could I leave it off?
