FD Dash Installation?

Does anyone know/tried?

Installing an FD dash? I wanna put one from say an 96 FD. My mate has a wrecking yard and a FD recently got pulled into it....was thinking of trying it?

Also anyone have good expierences ordering Mazdaspeed stuff? was thinking of ordering some mazdaspeed gauges for my 13BT upcomming install.

Cheers

the largest "issue" i see is that all the guage inputs(or dash inputs) go to the ecu 1st, im not sure if it changes power output levels or any thing. But i do know that in 89 they started making the dash and the ECU talk to each other.... and its still that way with the 8.... the ecu is told i have 5,000 miles on the o.d. so im still in the "break in" fuel maps. but if all the guages work with inputs from your stock senders that would be cool as hell looking.... but how does the digital o.d. work.... HUMMMM

Good luck!

But I would have to say that would be sweet if you could do it.. I like the wrap-around kinda style of the FD dash....

Yeah i think you could do it no problem, create a custom guage cluster facia which looks like the FD, using the FB mechanisms, i dont see why not...

but then again i know nothing of this sort of thing.

I don't think this is possible. The slope of the windshield on the FD is more that the FB's. This makes the FD dash longer (window to front of dash). If you were to make this fit the dash would stick all the way out pass the shifter. But then again, anything is possible!!

yeah, thats gonna be one hell of a project. I think it would look cool, definatly make the car look less old.

Let us know how it turns out if you go for it!

good point about it being to wide.

i was thinking about this. you can cut it to make it the width you need, and heat mold it to the shape of the FB.

that might work.

as for the dash guages. try just taking the front cover off of the FB guage pod, and mounting it. then any gaps in the back measure. and create a black back plate then cluster will sit in to remove any gaps around the cluster.

then simply get some clear plexie glas and glue it to the inside of the guage "hole" at an angle. so it looks stock.

Definetely planned to do some cutting and chopping etc. Don't think the glass will be much of a problem, was planning on gluing in new shield anyway.

I have heard of a few people using a fc dash. but like was said above to fit an fd dash would be next to imposible because of size depth and width. so good luck

I've seen a FD to FC conversion so I imagine you can do a FD to SA/FB conversion. Its in one of my old option 2 magazine
