FC Suspension Swap Writeup???
looking for the write up. please email me @ juanvazquez501@yahoo.com
I had it on my old computer, its nothing all that great guys, he never finished it, it left out such important details like hooking up the steering among other things. To mount the subframe in the FB he used two of the existing bolts (that hold the stock crossmember) and moved the other two back to line up with holes in the FB subframe. I'm not knocking the guys work, but the writeup didn't say much, and unless he is hiding with the finished project, he never finished it, nor has anyone else on here that said they were going to. So we don't even know if the end result works or not (although from the looks of it I bet it would)
Its been done, check this out.

no sooner had I posted that last comment did I see that other thread, haah guess I should have browsed down a bit farther on the thread list first. Oh well, at least we know it works, I'm very interested in more details, I hope that guy responds.
I've been toying with the idea for a while too, would compliment my 13bt swap nicely, especially since it gets rid of any mounting issues, since the engine and subframe are both of the same year. In the end I'm not sure I will though, because billy of respeed keeps dropping hints that within a few months we'll see a respeed rack and pinion kit come out. Combine that with the FC brake conversion kit he sells and I've got most of what I want.... we'll see.....
I just finished this swap
the best thing that I can add to Abeomids work is that if you use the FC steering column, it all bolt up with no cutting of the steering column (I used the FC dash also)
heres the skinny from my measurements.... FC front bolt holes are two far forward by approximatley 23 MM or so when bolted into the frame of the FB so....
to line the crossmember up in the frame, just leave the front bolts (FB) in the FB frame.
push the FC crossmember forward until it hits the bolts. this now puts the center of the hole at 23 MM +- 1 mm or so, right where we want it to get the correct castor......
drill new holes through the FB frame for the front and the rear of the FC crossmember. (do not modify the FC crossmember bolt holes)..
when you drill the holes, you will need to grind out the inner bracket on the FB frame (it holds the support tubes in place when the assemble the frame) then drill the top hole (on top of frame) out to about 1.5" diameter drop a pipe that barely fits (diameter wise) through the hole to rest on the bottom of the frame, mark it pull it and cut it to fit exactly in the hole length wise
(this is to stop the frame from being "crushed" when you put your new bolts in.
bolt in crossmember,
fab your steering column (I used the FC dash, and steering column as is)(you do need to trim the dash width wise to fit, but its easy).
I used the FC struts, with FB coil springs, camber adjustable FB top plate.
this will get you started.
incedentally, I drone my car for the first time, and its steering is very nimble, precise, and have no tracking, or bumpsteer issues of any kind.

kenn
Pics Kenn, pics. I learn and understand from pictures and diagrams better than I do with text only. I don't recall, did you front or center mount your engine, or can one even use the front mount system with the FC r&p?
If you use the FC subframe you have to center mount it like a stock FC is. Interesting that you did this kenn, glad to see it worked out. I was under the impression that the FC is slightly wider than the FB, is this not true, or is it not enough to worry about here? If we want to use the FB interior, will the FC column assembly still work? I haven't seen one in person for some time.
Heres a few more questions for you Kenn, are you running a 13b in that car? If so how does using the FC subframe affect the overall length of everything ie shifter position, driveshaft length etc. The more I think about this, the more I am interested in doing it, seems like the best way to go if using a FC engine as well....
Yea I can't wait to see what hes gonna release for that, his other stuff is top notch. Still waiting on the rear brake kit though, the axles are on the site, but the kit isn't up yet. He's teasing us...
