Compared to what? The black velours in the 83 are OK, but the red leather seats in the 85GSL are too high and too thick.

I've had a base model 82 and an 85 GS. The GS seats were definitely deeper, they interfered with the storage bins, but I didn't think they were any higher. My headroom was the same in both cars and it's about the same now with the TII seats.

A guy gave me some rather beat up T II seats for free, I had them re-done in a nice faux leather fro $200.
VERY comfy, and about 1/2 to 1 inch higher. Probably due to the old seats being worn, not to mention the previous driver over 300 lbs!

My wife scored mine last Christmas at a local yard. The TII must have JUST been dropped off because she described a complete interior. Total? $100 for the pair.
