Fc AFM in my '85 gsl-se

I put an AFM from an '87 into my car with a cone filter. Everything plugged in nicely but car wouldn't start. I read in the rx-7 performance handbook that its good for a few ponies. When I read it, it sounded like a plug and play. Obviously not. Must have to switch a couple wires.
Has anyone tried this before?
