FB vs FC AC Compressor in S5 swap

I have a GSL-SE with an S5 engine and subframe swap. In order to use the 3-port FC power steering rack, I need to use a 3-port pump, and that pump mounts to an FC mounting bracket, not an FBs. So, I've wound up with an s5 block and an s5 power steering pump.

I want to reinstall my AC and my FB compressor works great, but it doesn't bolt up to the bracket. FB compressors bolt on the front, FCs (like FDs) have 4 bolts going towards the block instead. Will an FC compressor bolt up to my FB hoses? Or is there a way to make my FB compressor work with this bracket?

You could just build a bracket, that's what I had to do. The only decent compressor I could find is one from a Honda accord. Connections were the same, but bracket holes were different.

I competent welder could do it easily.

If I were you I would go with the FC S5 compressor and have new hoses made.Sell the FB compressor and hoses to offset the costs.

Nice bracket - you probably saved about 50lbs of weight over the factory mount, too. I'm not kidding, either.

Definitely lighter than stock cradle! I wish I could have done it out of aluminum.

Alright I think I'll put my welding skills to the test and make a bracket like this. Thanks for the pictures! It doesn't look too hard to fabricate

Definitely not hard, just make sure it's square or the pulley will wear belts quickly.

I have a s5 aircon compressor in mine. It is mounted using the s5 aircon/power steering bracket.

The aircon hose connections are the same as the 1st gen ones. However, on Australian models the series 3 compressor is mounted high and the hoses have 90 degree bends in them which don't fit well on the low mounted s5 compressor. To address this, i just used s2 aircon hoses as that model had a low mounted aurcon compressor.

I'm aware that US FB models had different aircon options to us with Wynns and Nippon Denso variants. I can't guarantee those are the same as ours. But if your series 2 had the low mount aircon compressor, try the hoses from that. Worst case scenario, you could get aircon hoses made up fairly cheaply. They are all common size fittings.

A big advantage of the s5 setup is that the bracket is cast alloy and weighs about 10-20lbs less than the cast iron 1st gen one.

this is the only photo i could quickly get my hands on, showing aircon as i was dismantling before i started the body restoration. The s2 hoses have the 90 degree bend too but are much shorter than the s3 ones with the high mount compressor.
