man ****** ohio sucks ***! Untill recently we havent had echeck here, so I figured what the hell and have been workin on my various cars w/o fear of emmision controll, hence I bought a 84 se, knowing damn well it couldnt pass echeck from the factory lol and now I come to find out that it will be in my county within a year and im sol, the car will have to be sent to a junkyard unless I can pay off someone at the echeck place, this ******* blows I love this car except for the trouble its having, I think its ign related but its missin pretty good at idle and I wired the 6 port actuator open (was disconnected by previous owner by means of a straight pipe) and I didnt notice a damn bit of difference.... o well thats how it goes I guess echeck will be the death of fast cars
Too bad that really sucks! I agree thought I live where people in the sticks call the sticks. If it has a carb thought I'm gutting my rats nest tomorrow. Was gonna keep it in case I move but if you nee it i'l make you a sweet deal. Anything for another rotor fan!
you could get your car to pass, if your willing to spend the money. first you would need a good catylitic converter, with an air pump. tune up your ignition systme real good, etc. as a finishing touch i think you can add antifreeze or methanol to your gas and it will help. im not positive about that one so can someone confirm?

The Rx7 in it's stock form is definitely capable of passing most e-checks if it's tuned up. Unfortuantely yours looks like it's gonna need a bit of work.
See if you can get the cats off someone who lives where e-check isn't. If you can get a set of good condition stock cats for cheap, it'll solve your 6-port actuator problem and give you cats to bring your smog down.
Then you have to get things in tune. Run low-octane fuel since it burns more easily under compression. If any local gas stations sell Ethanol-blended gas, run a tank or two through before e-test. Get new spark plugs and make sure your ignition system is in tune. I'm not very familiar with the fuel-injection systems -SEs have, but clean injectors and proper fuel flow sound like things that would need to be looked at.
The basic idea is:
1. If you have proper fuel flow, you aren't running rich or lean, so as much fuel as possible is properly burned
2. If your ignition system is in check, the spark will be powerful and properly timed, helping to burn as much of that perfect air/fuel mix as possible
3. If your cats are in place and your 6-port actuators are working, the stuff coming out of your engine will be dealt with properly the way mazda intended.
4. And if there were any vacuum lines or emission-control systems on the -SE like there are on the GS, try to make sure they're all in place and intact.
It shouldn't be very expensive, certainly not as expensive as buying an aftermarket cat setup, if you can find the used cats.
Your other options are to find a way to activate the 6-ports that doesn't use exhaust backpressure, and buy an aftermarket cat. You can get cats that do or don't use the air pump, you'll have to do some research. Or you could find a way to pay off the e-checkers, but that isn't always possible.
Oh, and first before anything, check if 20-year-old cars can be exempt or have more leaniant testing done on them due to their age. If that's the case, next year your car may just pass even with the 6-ports wired open and straightpiped
Good luck, but don't trash the car, it's definitely possible to pass a 7, if it's not exempt.
