Cool Fb steering conversion & general ????'s

Hi Guys,

Am looking at getting an 84 FB and test drove it today. it drove very well apart from a couple of things...

The engine hesitated badly when pulling off (just sort of died and the revs dropped) and then burst into life...???
is this my inexperience with driving rotary's or is this carb/tuning related???

When under full lock and driving slowly there was a couple of load knocks from what sounded like the front left of the car???

The rear window heater does not work???

Drivers door window does not work???

And finally... i know that the stearing is done by a steering box rather than a rack and pinion and subcequently has a lot of play... can this be converted to an FC item to improve the stearing???
if so has anyone done this and how???

this car is going very cheep and does need some welding work but seems to be a good first rotary project, just wanted to find out about these other things first before i comit to buy it.
any comments are always welcome.

thanx.

Aside from the steering conversion you want, all the items listed are pretty minor. You can do the work yourself if you are mechanically inclined. You're probably looking at a carb rebuild, new front end bushings and tie rod ends/ball joints, etc.

www.re-speed.com has already done all the work on the rack and pinion conversion...

It looks as though you are in England, and therefore would be RHD. The ReSpeed kit only works for LHD, unless you can source your own rack. I think some Aussies were trying to find something but I don't know if they were successful. The factory steering can be tightened up though.

Ask her to help you work on the interior of the car. if she's any good at sewing, I'm pretty sure she'd like it. worked with me
