FB roller question.

I posed this question in the West FS section as that is where it's ultimately going. But wanted to post here as well to recruit broader input. Clean title, tags well into 2007.

Did a search, but results were not conclusive. This as what I did find were unclear as to the FB's condition compared to mine.

The Question:

What is the going sale price range for a pretty darn clean '85 FB manual steering roller (no engine or Trans but otherwise complete) with 74,000 original miles? Heck, the tan paint is even in pretty good shape. Would be best for a 7 Class race car as is somewhat stripped down inside in that no carpet at all and the rear bin sheet metal removed.

I would think there would be a going market what with the popularity of the 7 class (or something like that) race group. Having a spare roller to swap your engine and tranny into would seem a good thing to have if/when you crunch your weekend race car. I could sell it to the local wrecking yard, but really would like to see this otherwise clean car get good use.

I have pictures, but saved in a word document as .jpg pictures. Have no idea how to upload to this thread, so will have to e-mail unless someone would volunteer to do it for me.

Located about 40 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, near Pomona.

I've had one for sale that has been prepped. Underneath was sandblasted, epoxy coated, followed by truckbed liner. All rust repairs made, dents fixed and epoxied, ready for a primer builder coat then paint. I have asked 600 for it, which covers maybe 1/3 of the cost of doing this extensive of a restoration and have had a few potential buyers. The only reason I can get this much out of the shell is because other members have seen my work, quality and attention to detail.

On the flip side, others have parted bodies down to rolling shells and haven't even been able to give them away. Your price will fall somewhere in between depending on condition of the shell, in particular, the amount of rust repair needed along with body work.

At present, it looks like my shell will be going for 800-900 but I need to fit the doors, hood and bumpers, for the new owner. He will be starting with a fully prepped shell, as it came from Hiroshima, ready for paint, glass, interior, drivetrain and suspension. If I were to start another one from scratch, the price would be the 1400-1500 range, plus purchase price. Even then, it would barely be worth the time and effort as frugal, (read tightassed) as most of the 1st gen owners are.

Not a hint of rust

at all. Also, digging around I could find no indication it had ever been in an accident.

Only odd thing about it is that it began life as a GSL-SE. But along the line the suspension was swapped out to a GS type. Despite this swap, I can say it drove and rode fine driving it all over on the Los Angeles freeways.

That's a very clean shell. You should be able to pull some cash out of it. Put it in the cars for sale section. Someone with a good drivetrain and rusty body might pick it up, not just the IT or Spec7 guys.

It would be fine for someone to swap their good "innards" from their crappy body FB for sure, expecially of their car already has brown interior for the carpet.

Listed in the "For Sale" section last night. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=572140

Took a blind shot for asking price as a search through the forsale section gave me little clue. I really hope someone picks this up as it really needs to stay on the road. Heck, the tags are good for 10 more months and was bi-annual smogged to get them. So, no smogging for 22 months. That should be worth $100 bucks alone.
