FB Rearseat, Finally going to attempt it!

So im about to start, on my FB rear seat project. Not really sure how im goint to do it, i have general ideas so i feel good about it.

One question i have is i have seen other FB's on here with the trunks removed and the space where they go in to removed. does that just bolt off or will i need to cut that?

and to people that have removed them is there anything i should look out for? like if there is cutting something i should or should not cut?

if you're talking about the frame that the bins are screwd to, the frame will unbolt from the vehicle in two seperate sections. if the rear screws are rusty you may have some minor issues removing them. ther than that, its pretty straightforward as far as removing the bins and frame.

You going to make something custom, or try and track down the stock rear seats?

I have my bins out and without any cushions, my 8 year old brother can't even fit back there. If you're hoping to make the seats useable, it wont happen. If you're doing it for cosmetic reasons, go for it.

I have an 85 with a back seat kit if you want to see what it looks like. Perfect fit for two small legless children.

well right now i drive with the passenger seat moved foreward alittle and someone sits on top of the bins and it works ok. the seat would actually help me and make it work better. my buddy is 6' 2" btw and he fits decently.... its not super comfy but its functional.
i just want a seat there incase we get pulled over sometime.
so minor set back. i cant find the free van seat on craigslist right now. but those arent too hard to come by

Dude have you measured the area you have VS. a van seat? I would think that ANY van seat would be too big...

I drive with the seat all the way back so that would leave no leg room.

I had considered doing something so a car seat would fit back there.

I would think a seat out of a 2 door civic or something compact like that would fit a whole lot better.

The stock rear seat is essentially just a chunk of foam, shaped to fit into the space where the bins would be. The seat back is likewise a just a rectangular frame with padding and upholstery. It would not be difficult to make a seat, and a decent upholstery shop should be able to cover it to match your interior.

Be careful of over-thinking, trying to find another car model with the perfect sized seats, when all you really need are some basic raw materials and hardware.

There isn't a lot of room, but a medium size person can ride back there for short trips, sitting on one side with feet on the other. (Slide the front seat all the way forward.) Two small females, young children, or rhesus monkeys are also possible. Interestingly, there's more headroom than in a BMW 850 rear seat.

maybe ... find a way to fabricate in a split bench from the back of an 80-90s Extended cab truck, were you had to sit sideways. If I remember right, they have less room to work with then the 7 does.
Instead of sitting up high, drop it down.
